CrossFit Memphis – Fire Breather of the Month

July 2009 – Kim Shankle

CrossFit Memphis would like to congratulate our first Female Fire Breather of the Month….Kim Shankle!!!

When Mike and Doug asked who I thought would be a good female candidate for Fire Breather of the Month, Kim was the first to pop in my mind. Maybe it’s because I have seen her transform from when she first attended our Weight LossBootcamp, where she could barely swing the 25 pound kettlebell , to now throwing around the 55 like it’s no problem!

Or maybe it’s since she used to struggle doing sit-ups in a workout, and now she does 50 at the end of everyWOD just for the heck of it.  My point is Kim has worked hard and it shows!

I decided to ask Kim some personal facts about CrossFit and herself…so here it is….

Favorite WOD:

  • Filthy Fifty

Least Favorite WOD:

  • Anything with running

Favorite Lift:

  • Deadlift

Least Favorite Lift:

  • Snatch

Goals you’ve accomplished since starting:

  • Deadlift 1.5x body weight, pullups (kipping & just recently dead hang!)

Something you’ve learned about yourself since doing CF, or a statement of what CF means to you:

  • CFM has taught me that working out doesn’t have to be long and/or boring. I used to spend an hour 3-4 times per week on my treadmill with no results. Now when I hear people talking about “cardio on the treadmill” I laugh and tell them they really need to check out CF.  Two years ago I was 40 lbs heavier and horribly out of shape. One year ago, I’d lost some weight, but still wasn’t physically fit, so Scott talked me into trying CF boot camp for 6 weeks and I’ve been hooked ever since. I was very nervous on my first day of boot camp, not knowing what to expect. I’d only been into CFM once, during the 2008 Memorial Day Challenge (as a spectator)…and I remember thinking “These people are nuts!” Now I’m one of those nutty people and I love it! I don’t want to sound like an infomercial, but CFM has helped me get into the best shape of my life and I’ve met some really awesome people that are always super supportive of my and everyone else’s goals. I LOVE CROSSFIT!

We are so proud of your accomplishments Kim!!! Keep it up!!!!
